“SNOW EMERGENCY DECLARATION" – Mayor Ryan Saunders

Beginning Saturday January 24 at 9:00 PM, Mayor Ryan Saunders is proactively declaring a snow emergency for the Borough of Lehighton, effective until Monday, January 26 at 6:00 PM.

In accordance with Lehighton Borough Snow Emergency Code, the Police Department will be patrolling to ensure all vehicles are removed from posted snow emergency routes throughout the effective time frame. This includes parts of First, Second, Third, Ninth, North, South, Bankway, Bridge, Iron, Mahoning, and Ochre Streets. Please look for snow emergency signs on these routes, which are posted year-round. Any travel on these streets during the declared emergency will require snow tires, all-season tires, or chains.

In addition, he would like to remind residents that blowing or shoveling snow onto the roadways is prohibited. Do not pile snow into intersections. It is not only prohibited, but it prevents a clear line of sight and safe passage for vehicles traveling through the intersection.

Any assistance in clearing snow from our fire hydrants will be greatly appreciated; it will help our fire department in the event of an emergency. Please help us keep everyone safe during these times. Should you encounter an emergency, please dial 911.

To aid in our scheduled snow removal, the east side First street has been posted as no-parking on Monday, and the west side First street has been posted as no-parking on Tuesday. Please be mindful of these posted signs or risk towing.

If you receive any odd correspondence from a ‘@lehightonborough.org’ email address, please delete it.

Please be alert there is work being done on Second & Bridge Street.

Residents will be able to access all streets.

Please make prior arrangements to move vehicles from the street and from garages. Once asphalt is laid, the area will remain closed until barricades have been removed.

After 7+ months of being closed for construction, the D&L trail fully reopend to the public on Saturday September 28th. We encourage all trail goers to resume using the trail and observe the (2) new concrete spillways that have been constructed in place of the old wooden structures that were once there. That means your Public Works team will periodically vacuum leaves from the street gutter lines for your convenience.

We kindly ask that you limit any leaves in the street before the upcoming storm, which is on the radar for tomorrow. Wet leaves are hard to suck up!

Do not place anything besides leaves at the gutter line. Do not place any additional yard waste. That includes mulch, grass clippings, and branches. These types of yard waste may be deposited in our yard waste dumpster located at the Public Works garage.

Leaf collection will continue through the last week of November. Once we have a final collection date, we will advertise it on our Facebook page and the Borough website.
